From time to time someone, usually a fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, contacts Michael and requests permission to use some of his essays. How many essays a site is allowed to use varies based on the request, but usually no more than 10 essays are authorized.
If you wish to use an essay, please contact Michael. Provide information about your Web site including its URL, theme, language, and the use you intend for the essays. Please also indicate which essays you want to republish. You must provide correct attribution and a link to either this site or Xenite.Org.
It would be acceptable (and actually a good idea) for you to write a brief introductory paragraph explaining to your visitors why you have republished the essay. You should make it obvious that your introductory paragraph is not part of Michael's work.
Listings denoted by (ARCHIVE.ORG) represent Web sites that no longer exist but which were archived by the Wayback Machine.
Will Michael Write Back?Michael attempts to respond to all requests for permission to use his works in a timely fashion. Sometimes he overlooks a request because he does receive a lot of email. Sometimes he replies but never hears back from the person asking for use. If you have sent Michael a message asking for permission to reprint an article and you have NOT heard back from him within a week, check your junk mail filter. It is possible his reply has been filtered in your email. It may also be he cannot contact you because of ISP email filters. Please feel free to contact Michael again and tell him you have not heard back. In 2008 changes in email handling by many ISPs led to a general inability for people to receive email from Xenite.Org for several months. Although this situation has been resolved, Michael believes several hundred people may never have received messages he sent to them, as he never heard back from them. If you attempted to contact Michael in 2008 and did not hear from him, please try again. In a very few cases people did not supply valid email addresses. Please make sure you give Michael a good email address. |
